A sweeping narrative of vengeance and burning emotional drama nears as one of television’s most iconic characters prepares for his long-awaited return. Telemundo proudly announces the premiere date of the explosive eighth season of its International Emmy Award-winning franchise El Señor de los Cielos (The Lord of the Skies), starting Tuesday, January 17 at 9pm/8c.
Building on fan excitement since the start of production several months ago, viewers will be left breathless by the shocking return of its notorious protagonist Aurelio Casillas, portrayed anew by superstar Rafael Amaya.
Seemingly left for dead during an unforgettable seventh season, legendary drug lord Casillas, one of television’s most enduring characters, proves why you can never count an anti-hero out. More invincible than ever, he returns to mercilessly avenge all he has lost in this action-packed eighth season of Telemundo’s longest-running Super Series™. Viewers can enhance their Cielos viewing experience via Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, furthering the social media conversation using #ESDLC8 and #ElSenorDeLosCielos.
“We are beyond proud of what our extraordinary cast and production team accomplished with this production in Mexico, a season to remember that defies expectations with its scope and compelling story,” said Karen Barroeta, EVP of Production and Development at Telemundo Global Studios. “Having Rafa Amaya return in his most iconic role lit the fuse. Fans will be delighted to see their favorite characters and meet new ones in this dramatic action-packed season of one of the most venerable television series.”
In addition to the charismatic star Amaya, reprising their roles are fan favorites Carmen Aub (as Rutila Casillas), Iván Arana (as Ismael Casillas), Isabella Castillo (as Diana Ahumada), and Alejandro López (as Super Javi), with the special participation of Lisa Owen, Robinson Diaz, and Salvador Pineda. The series welcomes newcomers Rubén Cortada, África Zavala, and Yuri Vargas as recurring characters.
Maricela González, Karla Carrillo, Thalí García, Alan Slim, Karen Sandoval, Denia Agalianu, Carlos Corona, Daniel Martínez, Elsy Reyes, José Sedek, Wendy de los Cobos, Roberto Escobar, Sebastián González, Brenda Hanst, Daniel Martinez Campos, Renata Manterola, Mimi Morales, and Jorge Cárdenas complete the stellar ensemble.
At the start of season eight, all who know Aurelio Casillas, from his immediate family to the rest of the world, have no reason to accept his spectacular death. Yet, some forces, like the best-kept secrets, never stay down. Hidden in the desert by his enemies in the DEA, the notorious Señor de los Cielos is alive, breathing new fire, and destined to take back his place of power. Striking a powerful union with allies from previous seasons, Casillas faces new romantic entanglements while dealing with unexpected family mysteries, risking all he’s ever held dear as he enacts his cunning plan of revenge.
Set in Mexico and the Caribbean, this eighth season of El Señor de los Cielos is written by Luis Zelcowicz and directed by Juan Carlos Valdivia, Conrado Martínez, Mauricio Meneses, and Bernardo Mota. Telemundo’s Karen Barroeta, Ximena Cantuarias, and Harold Sánchez serve as the production’s executive producers.
